In this exercise, you will conduct research on two sets of disaster experiences:
A chronic disaster of extended (of failed) recovery. You may use the TMI case for this matter, since some argue that it qualifies as a chronic disasters, see TMI@36 conference documentation website – presentations (Link: https://sites.psu.edu/tmi35/sample-page/), or you may choose your own chronic disaster.
A one-time disaster, using one of the cases addressed in this lesson’s required course book reading (Response to Disaster: Psychological, Community and Ecological Approaches, Chapters 1 and 2).
In your analysis, focus on two or three aspects of the trauma experience discussed in Chapter 2 of the course book reading.
Write up a 300-word summary report of your research, analyzing the different and similar themes across descriptions of psychological trauma associated with the two sets of experiences. Add you assessment of the consequences for effective coping as a step towards achieving societal resilience!
