Purpose: Writing and presenting your work to the public is an important part of the scientific process. Knowing how information is gathered and processed develops your critical thinking skills.
Task: In this assignment, you will be assigned a topic. You are to write an estimated eight to ten-page paper on the assigned topic. The paper will have four sections. Chapter One: Overview, Chapter Two: Review of Literature, Chapter Three: Treatment, and Chapter Four: Summary and Discussion. Each section begins on a separate page.
Criteria: Contents and Page Count of Each Section
Title Page
The title page should contain the title of the paper, the author’s name, and the institutional affiliation. Include the page header (described above) flush left with the page number flush right at the top of the page. Please note that on the title page, your page header/running head should look like this: General APA Guidelines
Abstract
Begin a new page. Your abstract page should already include the page header (described above). On the first line of the abstract page, center the word “Abstract” (no bold, formatting, italics, underlining, or quotation marks). General APA Guidelines
Chapter One: Overview
This section should be no more than one page. The section has five elements: A topic sentence, definition of terms with an in-text reference, statistics that show the significance of the topic as well as statistics on its impact on any particular population and a problem statement. Everyone will end the paper with, “This paper will discuss the history and treatment / application of [your topic inserted here]
Chapter Two: Review of Literature. This section will discuss the history / evolution of the assigned topic. This section should be no more than one page but no more than three pages.
Chapter Three: Treatment. What is the treatment or how is the treatment applied or performed? This should be no more than two pages.
Chapter Four: Interview
Chapter Five: Summary and Discussion. This section should have three paragraphs. The first paragraph is a restatement of what had been discussed. The second paragraph is a statement of what you think is the more important takeaway from your research. The third paragraph is your recommendation to others concerning your topic. This section should be no more than one page.
