Consider a time when you were in a situation or place that meant you had to interact with people you perceived as culturally different from you and answer the following:
What was “different” about the other people? Possibilities may include ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic background, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, ability level, etc. Explain.
How would you describe your experience interacting with individuals from other cultures prior to this experience?
How did your communication alter or vary in this situation, dealing with people who are culturally different?
How would the outcome of this interaction have been different if you had the same experience again, having read Chapter 3 and having discussions about intercultural communication in class? What steps might you take to improve your intercultural communication in general?
