In Health 101, you will demonstrate the use of basic epidemiological methods, such as the analysis of rates, and the definition of cases, population at risk, risk, incidence, prevalence, morbidity and mortality. In addition, you will outline strategies for prevention, detection and control of infectious and chronic disease.
Keeping this in mind, submit a one page public health topic paper of a public health issue in your community that interest you.
Health 101 Section 16418 Public Health Topic Sample Submission Outline
Note: Your submission must be in narrative format.
INTRODUCTION
State your topic (example: Adolescents and Sexually Transmitted Infections)
Provide a general description of the public health issue affecting your community (example: adolescents 15-24 years of age account for more than 50% of all new sexually transmitted infections)
State the type of essay Persuasive or Comparative (example: Persuasive Essay on school-based health centers to offer timely treatment of sexually transmitted diseases)
DISCUSSION
Clearly define one current public health issue (example: increased incidence of sexually transmitted infections among adolescents)
Clearly define three plausible underlying causes of the public health issue in your community (example: lack of timely treatment of sexually transmitted infections in adolescents, access to care and lack of partner treatment)
Discuss the impact to Adolescents (example: Adolescents face the risk of chronic pelvic pain, ectopic pregnancy and infertility)
CONCLUSION
Clearly Summarize your public health issue and the underlying causes of the public health issue.
REFERENCES
Clearly provide at least two peer-reviewed references in addition to the textbook that you intend to cite.
References should reinforce the current literature on your public health topic and why you are comparing or persuading your readers to understand the implications of your research.
Your references should not be greater than five (5) years old.
