Introduction

Background: My discipline is
Information Systems (IS) and my research is about designing online surveys in
the e-health research context. This online survey software is used to collect
data from participants from various studies. Thus, supporting online research. These
studies are hosted by the online portal “u-care”. The entire facility is part
of the U-CARE research program where the idea is to deliver care online via the
u-care portal. Basically, researchers/therapists/practitioners conduct studies
via the u-care portal, where participants are put randomly into different
groups (control/treatment/reference). This is determined by a screening
questionnaire (in the baseline observation point) upon the severity on how
participants score. This is called Randomized Control Trial (RCT). Participants
are further asked periodically on different observation points to fill in
online questionnaires via the u-care portal as part of their care activities by
the care giver. My research idea here is twofold. First, the design of online
survey that supports the Randomized Control Trail (RCT) logic. Second, we log
participants’ activities while they are answering surveys/questionnaires. This
is called Respondent Behavior Logging (RBL). For example, when respondents open
a questionnaire, answer a question, go to the next page, change answers, delete
answers, and submit questionnaires and so on. The idea here is, by looking into
the log data, we can develop a system of inquiry to evaluate the effectiveness
of questionnaires/surveys. Therefore, the design and development of the RCT
logic and RBL is intended to provide rich support for researchers to design research
and treatment protocols and investigate their effects.
