Research Topic Discovery

Directions: First, take some time to research a topic by googling it that affects you or your community at a local level (not nationally or world topics) on the internet (not so reliable) and the GateWay Library Databases (more reliable). GateWay Library

Competency: Write for specific rhetorical contexts, including circumstance, purpose, topic, audience and writer, as well as the writing’s ethical, political, and cultural implications.

Topics not allowed as they are overused or too broad: Abortion, Gun Control, Global Warming, Anything about Marijuana, Animal Testing, Immigration, Bullying, Body Image, Social Media, ANYTHING NATIONAL.

This reflection (2 full paragraphs) will be based on your topic exploration and initial research.

Part I: What is your topic? Then answer Who (who is involved, who created the problem, who can fix it), What (what is it? What has been done about it? What can people do?) Why (Why is this topic a problem? Why did you choose it?) When (When did the problem begin? When can it be solved?)

Part II: How is the issue you chose local to you and how does it affect your immediate community? Your audience will be people in your community who know this issue is already a problem. That means, you cannot define anything for them. They know.

Part III: Write 3 possible research questions (you will choose only one) that can have 3-4 answers. Do not write yes or no questions.
