Overview
The purpose of this assignment is to convert a health policy into an infograph that can be shared with legislators at a scheduled meeting. The policy may be the policy you have previously identified OR can be a new policy. In order to develop the infograph, you must first develop a short policy brief.
The policy brief (1-2 pages) should be written for a legislator who has some knowledge of the problem, but may not have medical training. Avoid medical jargon and communicate clearly. This is different than the op-ed piece which is written for the lay person. The policy brief assumes the legislator has some interest and understanding in the health problem. The policy brief should be in more depth than the op-ed piece. There are many examples of briefs and infographs on the web, including free templates. The policy brief should include:
Executive summary (provides an overview and summary of concern –usually written last)
Background and significance (provides purpose of policy brief, understanding of key concerns)
Position Statement directing policy (may include what happens if policy not enacted)
References (using APA format) (may include non-professional, non-peer reviewed) (no more than 3-4)
Once the policy brief has been drafted, the infograph can be created to further summarize the policy brief. An infograph is a visually appealing way of communicating a summary of data. It is

a way to take complex data and make it more readable in an eye catching way. It is usually a one-page handout. There are many great examples of infographs, as well as how to create simple infographs on the web.
You will submit together in one document, a one-page policy brief, and a one-page inforgraph. Be concise –
