For this week, respond to the following questions by Saturday so that your peers can respond to your posts by Sunday.
1. Sutherland and Cressey suggest that there are nine (9) “steps” in the process of learning criminal behavior and the focus of their theory is that criminal behavior is not innate but it is a social process, it is learned from others. Sutherland and Cressey’s Differential Association theory (#6) was published in the 1960’s before TV was as accessible as it is today, video games, internet or social media. Therefore, the theory refers to criminal behavior being learned from others face to face. Based on their 9 steps, do you think it’s possible for this theory to apply today with the online/virtual spaces that exist. In others words, based on their theory, would criminal behavior be learned from TV/Videos/Media in the same way as they originally theorized?
2. Drawing on social learning theory (Akers), describe and give an example of major types of “definitions” favorable to crime. How can this theory apply to behaviors that college students typically engage in?

after you read #13 Techniques of Neutralization and identify the techniques utilized by the criminals in the article (provide examples found in the article). Are criminals the only ones who use these techniques?
