Personality Theory Framework (100 points, 16.67% of total grade): In order to facilitate understanding
and acquisition of Rychlak’s (1981) framework for analyzing and understanding theories of human
personality, and to facilitate consideration of an “adequate anthropology,” you will provide your own
preliminary outline of a theory of personality that is coherent, comprehensive, and consistent with human
nature. Completion of the framework paper is required in order to complete the course.
Content
• Clearly state the title and key concept of your theory (the most important idea that organizes the
theory and distinguishes it from other theories).
• According to a format and samples that will be provided, your task is to develop and provide a
comprehensive, detailed, descriptive outline considering ALL four (4) of the following
dimensions/aspects of a theory of human nature:
Structure: What is our nature?
structure, essence, nature; aspects, components, capacities; parts and/or whole
Motivation: Why do we act?
motives; instincts, drives, desires; needs, meanings, callings
Development: When/where/how do we change?
growth aspects; ages, stages, tasks; contexts, formative influences
Personality: Who do we become?
individuality/uniqueness, types/styles; temperament, personality, character
• You are also required to clearly and succinctly indicate how your theory of personality addresses
the following enduring existential questions:
What is the meaning and purpose of our life?
What is good and what is evil?
What is the origin and purpose of suffering?
What is the way to attain true happiness?
What is our origin and what is our end?
Sources
• You may glean initial information for the framework components through course lectures,
discussions, and required readings, incorporating at least four (4) of these sources. You are also
required to identify and incorporate information from at least four (4) additional sources from the
“supplementary materials” noted above (many of which will be on reserve in the library) and/or
your own library research. All sources must be properly cited and referenced according to APA
style.

• Framework content will be evaluated based on the quality of your title and key concept; proper
consideration of each of the four dimensions/aspects of a personality theory; proper consideration
of the enduring existential questions; evidence of critical thinking (presented concepts related to
specific dimension or question under consideration); evidence of integrative thinking
(incorporation of relevant concepts from theology, philosophy, natural science, and/or human
science); and quantity and quality of sources used. Framework style will be evaluated based on
proper use of relevant elements of APA format (font/spacing/margins, title page, pagination/page
breaks, headings format, references format), citations (author/date, titles, short/block quotes,
page/part numbers, secondary sources), references (author/date, article/journal, book/chapter,
other formats, publisher/hyperlink), organization (title, heading levels, paragraphs/lists/tables,
comprehension/conclusion), writing (continuity, flow, tone, conciseness, clarity), and mechanics
(grammar, punctuation, spelling, capitalization, italics/abbreviations/numbers). Deductions will
apply for late submission, deviations from required length, and inadequately crediting sources.
