The Research Paper – This paper is an opportunity to investigate something that we did not get into with much depth or detail in class, or possibly something that we have not touched on at all. Choose a topic from the field of Interpersonal Communication that you are interested in and would like to know more about. Do some research on your chosen topic, both internet-research and library-research. Based on the reading you do, develop a question that interrogates your topic and then write a paper that responds to that question and relays the research you have done. This paper asks you to engage your critical thinking skills and to be able to articulate your thought process in a well-laid out manner. You will be graded both on the content of what you write and the manner in which you write it; which means that grammar, spelling, and sentence structure count. If I cannot understand what you are saying in the manner in which it is written, I cannot possibly understand the entirety of your message.
The Self-Analysis Reflection – After you have done the research for and written your research paper, assess your own communication skills with respect to the same topic or idea within interpersonal communication. Begin with a thorough self-assessment of your own communication practices in your chosen area. Then write about the positive and negative effects your comm. Practices and behaviors have on your relationships. Finally, finish with thoughts on how you might want to change your communication after having done the research in this area.
