explore government responses to the disaster, how individuals responded with literature or building community (but not individually), or you can explore how the crisis was memorialized in a physical memorial or event.

Tentative Thesis (Due Friday 11:59pm)
After receiving feedback on your research question from me, formulate your tentative thesis statement and write it here. This is the argument that is going to drive your essay and that you will support with
your research. Remember a strong thesis is specific, supportable, and controversial.
Resource: Writing a Strong Thesis Statement
DESCRIPTION OF RESEARCH ESSAY: For the research essay you will be writing in a few weeks, you will be choosing a topic related to the course theme of how humans collectively remember crises and
disasters. You may choose any crisis or disaster you want, but you might want to look at this list of disasters or this list of financial crises or this list of pandemics to decide. The essay will be a 2000-2500
word analysis that uses your research to support your thesis. You can choose to explore government responses to the disaster, how individuals responded with literature or building community (but not
individually), or you can explore how the crisis was memorialized in a physical memorial or event. Remember, this is about collective memory.

Research Proposal (due Friday at 11:59pm).
For this assignment, you need to include your revised thesis, where you plan to get your research for the essay, and several points you want to make that support your thesis. Think through all of the things you want
to say about your topic, and include them here. There is no set structure to this. Tell me about your essay as it stands right now, and tell me what research you are going to include. If you like, you can use this
structure
1. Your revised thesis.
2. Points/supports/reasons you want to include in the essay that follow from your thesis and that you will use to structure the essay.
3. Some links to articles or books you have already found about y@ur topic and that you think you will use.
