1) This second half of the semester often focuses on juvenile justice. Now that you have had a chance to watch the documentary on the Central Park Five, what did you think? Do you find that it relates to No Matter How Loud I Shout? How so?
1a) What did you think of the essay Ain’t I A Person? Did the Central Park Five kids come up for you at all there?
2) Compare Marty Tankleff to Adrian P. Thomas. These are two false confessions from a young, White man struggling with the death of his parents, and an older Black man – a father, struggling with the death of his child. Did law enforcement fail these two individuals in different ways? Similar ways? Who had privilege – if anyone?
3) You have now read the practices and subsequent results of the Reid technique. Knowing how law enforcement illicit confessions, is this a technique that we should keep using? What would you have law enforcement do instead? (Consider the strategies listed at the end of the presentation, and maybe do your own research.)
