Preparation for the Activity
On your desktop, right-click using the mouse to create a new folder.
Title the new folder Assignment
Within the Assignment folder, create a nested folder called images. (make sure you click on the Assignment folder before adding the new folder)
Now you are ready to begin the activity.
Practice Activity
Connect to the Internet. Start your Web browser and open a search engine such as Google or Yahoo.
Use the search engine to find images of each of the following: (keep in mind file size)
Sun
World
Star
Atom
Save the images into the images folder you created within your Assignment folder on your desktop. Remember to save your images as GIFs.
sun.gif
world.gif
star.gif
atom.gif
Now, type the following HTML code in Notepad:
Love from whom the world
begun,
Hath the secret of the sun.
Love can tell, and love alone, When the million stars
were strewn,
Why each atom
Knows its own
..Robert Bridges
Save this as poem.htm in your Assignment folder .
Practice with Text and Image Alignment:
Open poem.htm in your assignment folder.
Add the following alignment attributes:
Love from whom the world
begun,
Hath the secret of the sun.
Love can tell, and love alone, When the million stars
were strewn,
Why each atom
Knows its own.
..Robert Bridges
Portfolio Assignment
When you finish your work, submit your poem.htm as a .zip folder to your teacher using the Drop Box. To create a .zip folder, follow the directions below:
Right-click on the Assignment folder located on your computer.
In the menu, select Send to.
In the Send to menu, select Compressed (zipped) folder.
The new folder will have the same name as your original file, but .zip will appear at the end (for example, Assignment.zip or ECT.zip).
After zipping it, it is important to right-click on the zipped folder and select Extract All. Otherwise, your images will not appear in the poem.htm file since the HTML image coding does not account for an additional folder level in the relative path.
