What is a Reflective Essay?
Explain how Reflection is something that human beings do naturally. The basic process of reflection is:
we have an experience
we react to that experience
we remember important details and impressions of that experience
we think about what those details meant to us
we form general opinions about people, places, situations or life in general based on the meaning we give to our experiences
A reflective essay is one in which a writer describes his or her experience and deliberately explores or explains its significance. A reflective essay is a “thinking essay” as it requires you to collect your thoughts on a subject. Writing a reflective essay is a way of thinking back on what you have learned as part of an experience, or series of experiences. A good reflective essay balances a reporting of your experiences with statements of what those experiences mean to you.
