1-The aim of the Peace Agreement assignment is to evaluate your understanding of some of the concepts and theories that we have worked with so far and your ability to apply them empirically. With this written assignment, we also expect you to demonstrate ability to conduct independent analysis, as well as ability to present a subject in writing.

3-Your task is to write a short paper (1,5 line spacing, and 12 Times New Roman), where you analyse, with clear reference to the theories, concepts and findings in the course literature, the implications that the content of the peace agreement may have, if at all, on the durability of peace following the peace agreement. The analysis should not focus merely on the agreement itself – you need to take into account the conflict context in which the peace agreement has been reached.

You should discuss how this aspect is relevant for the durability of peace following the peace agreement, and you need to base your discussion on the theories and findings of the course literature.

We are aware that the peace agreements are of varying length and detail. In some cases, peace agreements are extremely lengthy, with extensive detailed appendices outlining implementation, etc.; it will then make sense to focus on the central components of the agreement, as well as to draw on more limited contextual information to argue convincingly about selected dimensions of the peace agreement. With very brief peace agreements, we expect that you support your arguments with more contextual information. However, note that the focus of this assignment is to analyze the actual peace agreement so avoid using valuable text-space for pure description (i.e. general background to the conflict that is not closely related to the assignment). Please also note that the assignment is not about text-analysis.
