Children’s Book (mainly age 2-9)
Pick a “touchy” theme/topic and explore how it is handled
in at least three picture books. This
could be on food, death, single-parents, poverty, gender roles, etc. This
theme does not have to be the central one of the book. So the plot doesn’t have
to revolve around the issue. As well as discussing how the theme plays out in
your books, you could also look at how the theme is typically handled; how the
books challenge or even subvert the expected; the importance of the theme; the
kinds of concerns it raises, etc. Pick
books and stories that resonate for you and that have something interesting to
say
