For this next writing assignment, I want to you pick a clade of organisms to follow through the Cenozoic. It can be any group except our lineage (the hominids). Some options with good fossil records include:

I then want you to write the following sections in this order:
Paragraph 1 (5 pts). Describe the clade you are focusing on. What are the traits that define this clade of organisms? What are the oldest known fossils for this group, and what did these earliest species look like?
Paragraph 2 (5 pts). Describe what we know about the clade’s fossil record. Use the Paleobiology Database (https://paleobiodb.org/navigator/ (Links to an external site.)) to determine where fossils have been found for your clade in each period of the Paleozoic.
Paragraph 3 (5 pts). Produce a hypothesis about how changes through the Paleozoic may have affected biodiversity in your clade. Specifically use the information we have discussed in class about continental drift, paleotemperatures, and/or changes in ecology to inform your hypothesis.
General formatting (5pts). This includes clarity of writing, staying within the page limits (1-2 double-spaced pages; 12 point font), and properly citing two sources (MLA format).
