What are the sustainability concerns related to my selected material? How significant are the concerns?
What ideas have been proposed to address the sustainability concerns?
What research has been done to evaluate ideas for improved sustainability? What were the conclusions from the research?
Write a literature review focused on some of the sustainability aspects of the topic which may generally include:
Energy consumption/efficiency
Air pollution/GHG emissions
Ecosystem disruption
Soil or water pollution
Waste materials, landfill content, recycleability
Natural resource limitations
Adverse effects on human health
Economic effects
Social effects
Assignment Requirements:
The literature review will focus in-depth on a few, sustainability-related aspects of the general topic and should not be a comprehensive, superficial review of the topic. However, some general background information to put the topic in context is always helpful.
Find and study at least six articles/sources related to the topic. A minimum of four of those sources should be peer-reviewed articles. The articles should be specific to certain aspects of the topic instead of general reviews.
Summarize the scope and findings of the articles in a logical, organized way.
Include in-line citations and a complete bibliography. Do not include an abstract.
The length of your literature review should range from 8 to 12 pages of text (double spaced, 12pt font, normal margins). The inclusion of figures or tables is acceptable, but they should be excluded from the page count. Include a title page and table of contents.
Minimize (or better, avoid entirely) direct quotes from the articles (a plagiarism checker is used). Instead, restate the information in your own words with a citation of the source.
Take an objective stance. This is a literature review not a report on your own opinions and ideas.
