What are the potential health effects of the issue on the patient and/or patient care?

Students will research a problem that could negatively affect a patient’s health while in a healthcare facility. The research paper will help the student to prevent these problems from occurring which will promote positive patient outcomes.

Sections required: Introduction, Literature Review (the bulk of your paper), and Conclusion (which includes your analysis of whether the literature supports your research questions and how it will impact your practice or future nursing practice.

Step one:
● Select your topic and literature sources to the faculty for approval
● Create a research question
● Enter into designated drop box.

Step two: Write the Literature Review
○ Find 4 nursing journal articles related to your chosen topic. The articles must be from peer-reviewed nursing journals – need professor approval.
○ The research articles must be within the last 5 years.
○ You will need to read, analyze, and summarize each of the articles and discuss how each relates to your chosen topic. This is what is called a “mini” literature review.
○ Enter into designated drop box.

Step three: Write the Introduction and Conclusion
Most writers find it helpful to write the introduction after they have created their research question, reviewed the literature, and written the body of the paper – the literature review.

● Once you have an approved topic, you will need to give a brief introduction of the topic. You do not give away everything about your paper in the Introduction – you want people to be interested to read further into your paper.

● The information that needs to be included in the introduction is as follows:
○ Define the topic or issue briefly
■ What is the prevalence of the issue?
■ Who is most affected by this issue?
■ State your research question as you transition into the Literature Review Section
The information that needs to be included in the conclusion is as follows:
○ Restate your research question
○ Are their 2 sides to the issue? If so what are they?
○ What are the potential health effects of the issue on the patient and/or patient care?
Step four:
• Submit the final paper into the Turnitin2™ drop box on the class home page.

A grading rubric will be provided on Moodle for the final paper as a guideline for you. Feedback on each section will be given by the faculty and you will need to demonstrate that you read the feedback and implemented the changes in your final paper.

My topic is the prevalence and prevention of Ventilator associated pneumonia.
