I have worked in the physical therapy (PT) field since 2011 working in various professional levels. I felt like I wanted to touch on my original motivation to pursue a career in physical therapy and then also touch upon the motivation to apply to doctor of physical therapy (DPT) programs now which stems from recently working on a neurological rehab unit. I never thought I would enjoy neuro therapy, but here we are!
I feel like I am having a challenging time putting into words why I am so passionate about PT and why I like working on this unit so much. I create close bonds with these patients after they leave. and I love that I get to help them recover, and regain strength, independence, and quality of life. I help them physically but also mentally. I get to know them and their families. I help prepare their families for their discharge home and provide caregiver training if needed. I truly enjoy helping others and seeing them succeed.
