Olympic Issues

1) Considering the relationship between sport and international politics, how does this relationship contribute to answering the dichotomy between boycotting or not boycotting the Olympics? Considering the reasons both for and against the U.S. boycott of the Moscow Games in 1980, do you regard the pursuit by the Carter administration, and the decision by the USOC, to boycott the Games as justified? Additionally, was the boycott a success? Is it acceptable for governing nations to mandate actions such as boycotts despite technically being unable to manage their respective NOCs?
