Directions:
The concert report is your chance to tell me about a concert experience. It should be at least two pages, single-spaced. The format is somewhat open but should start with a who, what, where, when and why statement. Approach the review as if you were writing for a newspaper or music magazine. Describe the audience; the place the concert took place and the general ambience of the concert. Was it formal? Informal?
Most importantly tell me about the music. Who was playing? What instruments did the musicians play? What type of music were they playing? Go on to analyze the music and how it sounded to you. Include such topics as style, influences, composition and improvisation. Don’t just say, “I liked it”. Evaluate the performance using your own language. Did you like a particular piece or specific performer? Did you not enjoy a particular aspect of the performance?
