Professor feedback: Dear, Winslow Homer’s “A Visit from the Old Mistress” is a fascinating painting. Much of your discussion of it here comes from sources. I suggest approaching your revision as a restart. Rather than relying on sources, make and analyze your own observations of the piece (I notice your sketch lacks annotations for example). Don’t rely on other peoples’ interpretations of this piece. Instead, determine what you think Homer is saying about the encounter among these women. Analyze things like the composition, the color palette, the brushwork, etc. This is a particularly rich painting for a formal analysis. I’m happy to help walk you through this process. Just make an appointment during my office hours. With all best, Prof.
Please follow the instructions in the assignment 2 folder and revise the hypothesis I wrote previously with adequate information and following the feedback the professor has given to me.
