Write a review paper on ‘Out Of This Furnace’ by Thomas BellBell’s vision of how immigrant groups adjust to life in the United States over generations has similarities to the Ellis Island Myth, but it is somewhat different. Bell has more skeptical view of what the United States offers, he sees immigrants changing the United States (as well as being changed by it), and he focuses on unionization as a route to upward mobility. Develop an original argument that answers the following questions: What messages does Bell’s novel send about immigration? What significance could those messages have today?

Your paper should be about four pages long, double-spaced, and in 12-point font with one-inch margins. I prefer that you submit a Word document. I’m not fussy about headings and D2L provides the name and date for you.
You must include a clear thesis statement laying out your argument in the introduction, topic sentences that relate each paragraph back to your thesis, and specific evidence from the text and class. The challenges in this assignment will be: developing an appropriate thesis statement, structuring your essay, and dealing with the genre of the work (autobiographical fiction). We will discuss all those things!
Normally, we would use Chicago Manual of Style footnotes for citations, but this case we are all using the same book, so you can use a simplified form. If you use any quotations, include a parenthetical reference to the page number at the end of the sentence (after the quotation marks close, but before the period). At the end of your essay include:
