Example 1

Pro-Imperialist cartoon
The cartoonist is using the visual of British and American caricatures caring baskets of indigenous peoples from lands in which they have conquered or colonized. The caricatures of the people in the baskets are insulting and paint them in an unflattering light. The rocks have words that represent what the cartoonist says the white men are protecting the darker peoples from. White man’s burden visual.
Example 2

Anti- Imperialist
The caption reads “The White ? Man’s Burden”. The picture tells a different story in that the peoples of the colonized lands are caring the load and struggling under the oppression of the colonizers. The question mark serves to ask the question of who has the real burden in this new imperialism.
