Clinical Students: Case presentation (10% of grade)
Each student will develop a 1500-2000 word written a case presentation of a patient (past or current) involving complex medication management issues and psychotherapeutic approaches. Students must not include HIPAA protected information in their presentation. A complex medication management case refers to a patient prescribed two or more medications, and at least one of the drugs is a psychiatric medication and the patient has a mental health diagnosis. If you have not worked in clinical settings, then contact the instructor who will develop a hypothetical case with you.
The case presentation will draw from information about the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of medications, as well as the FDA approval status of the drugs, psychodiagnostics, psychotherapeutic approaches, and the art of medication management within the context of integrated medical and behavioral health care. Include specific factors pertinent to the drug, including potential adverse drug responses and medication compliance issues in this discussion.
Compare the utility of the chosen drugs with alternative forms of therapy. If appropriate, discuss complementary and alternative (CAM) treatments. Synthesize the current literature regarding the integration of psychotherapy with medications. Here is your chance to express your opinion (backed by current literature!) regarding possible interactions of drug treatment using these medications and your own preferred psycho therapeutic approach.
The Case Presentation must follow APA 7th edition style and include at least 4 references for the psychotic drug discussed in the case study presentation. Students must submit their case presentations in Microsoft Word format on Canvas.
