CHOOSE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING TOPICS:

a) There is evidence to suggest that the Dark Triad of personality traits may in fact be a Dark Tetrad, with the fourth component involving sadism. Discuss the phenomenon of “everyday sadism,” how this might relate to the Dark Triad, and its relation to criminal or antisocial behavior.

b) When children are victims of abuse, they may be called to testify in court against their alleged abuser. To make this process less traumatic for children, in-court accommodations may be used (e.g., screens, CCTV). Some have argued that this creates a disadvantage for the defendant, as it may make them look more guilty to a jury. Discuss the research surrounding the use of in-court accommodations for children and whether they do in fact compromise a fair trial for the accused.

c) Choosing one type of neurodiversity (e.g., autism, ADHD, FASD), outline the traits associated with that form of neurodivergence and discuss research that might explain whether/why this population would be at a greater risk of giving a false confession.

Instructions:

-Please pick one topic and write a 7-page double-spaced paper using 6 academic peer-reviewed research articles to support each paragraph in the paper (1 elaborated paragraph per research article = 6 paragraphs).

-Academic sources do not have to be Canadian, but they should be published within the past 10 -12 years (excluding foundational theories).

-Paper must follow the APA 7 guidelines

-Please discuss one peer-reviewed research article per paragraph – a total of 6 paragraphs

-Discussion of research articles

For each article discussed in a paragraph:

-Discuss the choice of the article: relevance to the main topic, peer-reviewed academic research (no dissertations, no Wikipedia or blog posts, etc.), recent within the past 10-12 years

-Provide a summary of the article: do we know what kind of source this is (experiment, meta- analysis, literature review, etc.)? Do we know the main research question addressed? Have you described the methods use to answer that question in appropriate detail? Have you presented the main findings of the paper? Have you connected this back to the main research question?

-Provide conclusions – summarized the main findings presented in the essay, tied concepts together, closed off with concluding remarks
