In Chapter 11 of the text, Eller writes, “Every social situation in America has the potential to turn into a violent encounter”, that America presents a “constellation” of “riches” in violence. Overall, his assessment of America is rather dim. I find again, that we tend to blame an object, religion or even country when assessing a violent segment of society or violent incident. Are we condemning the whole for the sins of the few. Are we working on ways to find all people guilty, if not for the present, for their past, or even what segment they “appear” to be associated with. Are we expecting perfection? Is the trajectory of present times ensuring hope for a better future?. Or, do you disagree with Eller and think there is hope for the future. Your thoughts!
