1. Write out using bullet points the paper’s main points?

2. What do you see as the paper’s main thesis? The goal of a thesis statement is to let your reader know what your paper or essay is about. It helps your reader understand the greater context and scope of your topic, plus it lets your readers know what to expect from the rest of the work. The thesis statement is generally in the first or second paragraph of a paper. The thesis statement shows how all the paragraphs compare, contrast and come together to form an argument or a statement of interest.
3. Does your interpretation agree with the author’s stated thesis or what you assume to be the authors stated thesis? In what ways might the paper need to change so that its structure more effectively supports the thesis?
4. Where is more evidence needed (ex. Are statements made that need referencing support)?
5. Where are more interpretations needed (ex. Where in the paper would it be helpful to read what the writer thinks about something)?
6. Does the paper open in an appealing, purposeful way? How else might the paper begin, to better capture and direct our attention?
7. Does the essay draw a thought-¬‐provoking conclusion that puts its argument in a larger context? What else might the conclusion explore?
