Write a discussion paper on Group Dynamics.Kozlowski, S.W., Chao, G.T., Grand, J. A., Braun, M.T., & Kuljanin, G. (2013). Advancing multilevel research design: Capturing the dynamics of emergence. Organizational research methods, 16(4), 581-615.
The authors and researchers from these individuals from different institutes helped in writing this. They sought to use direct quantitative research on the emergence that is contrary to the common quantitative research that has been done in the past decades. This research was done so that the results could be discussed with groups and organizations. They illustrated how direct and indirect these approaches can be complementary and appropriately integrated that could help advance theory and research. The conclusion to all this is that multilevel research across multiple organizational levels is limited in what it can reveal and that there is a need to enlarge the research design and the approaches to groups.
Dornyei, Z. (1997). Psychological processes in cooperative language learning: Group dynamics and motivation. The modern language journal, 81(4), 482-493.
This is the examining and research of the psychological foundations of the success of cooperatively structured learning. The author and research brought together two interrelated processes in the group dynamics of cooperative learning (CL) classes and the motivational system generated by peer collaboration. This journal entry was more focused on cooperatively structured learning, but the processes are not restricted to CL but are characteristics of any group work, teamwork, and student cohesion. Basically, any work in general. The method for all this breaks down to the educational role that is used from the CL. This journal was broken down to how we learn as a group and teaches how the dynamics of certain groups work to learn.
Cronin, M.A., Weingart, L.R., & Todorova, G. (2011). Dynamics in Groups: Are we there yet? Academy of Management Annals, 5(1), 571-612.
This is a review of the theoretical developments, and they also examined their impact on the understanding of group dynamics. The research of this has shown progress in many areas such as effectiveness, learning, and diversity. With this type of research, we can learn how to bring together many groups and be helpful to everyone. The practices of group research and group practices can learn from this study and move forward. Highlighting group dynamics are a way to demonstrate how the complicated issues might be tackled. These groups and think tanks help bring together problems and then have solutions to these problems. This is the ley to moving forward, group studies, and group research.
Farnsworth, J., & Boon, B. (2010). Analyzing group dynamics within the focus group. Qualitative Research, 10(5), 605-624.
The data studied and written in this journal of focus groups was conducted over a 7-year period. This study was done primarily to show the area that was most excluded was group dynamics. They thought that attending to group dynamics will make a better sense of the quality of research and focus group experiences to show that the findings will bring more detailed information on the group. They came up with that an orientation to group relations is so very important to expounding the sensitivity of the method as an effective research procedure. Focus groups are great to help distinguish the importance of group dynamics.
Kozlowski, S. W. (2015). Advancing research on team process dynamics: Theoretical, methodological, and measurement considerations. Organizational Psychology Review, 5(4), 270-299.
This study or research was down to examine three ways or titles as to why team mechanisms are way understudied. The study showed what were the problems and why they caused differences. The rate and trajectory of these groups showed the underlining effects and the problems that come from the lack of study or research. There were three ways that were given to advance these groups. Advancing new research, measuring and creating new research to the existing research, and adapting and also advancing the research methods now. The research that has already been done and the new research can get a bit confusing. Mixing the new and the old can hurt more than help.
Kozlowski, S.W., & Chao, G. T. (2012). The dynamics of emergence: cognition and cohesion in work teams, Managerial and Decision Economics, 33(5-6), 335-354.
This research was done because of a lack of attention to micro-meso disciplines of organizational science. This was done by researchers from Michigan State University and was done as a multilevel research tool. They intended to explain the conceptual undertones that would advance a more process-oriented and dynamic understanding. They found that the dynamic processes have been little researched and because of that it has failed to show that the emergence of groups is extremely useful and powerful. This research shows and proves the importance of groups and what they bring to the table as in growth. The emergence of groups and working as teams is key to getting better.
Humphrey, S. E., & Aime, F. (2014). Team microdynamics: Toward an organizing approach to teamwork. Academy of Management Annals, 8(1), 443-503.
Studying and researching multilevel teams and understanding on how to enhance the groups or teams needs more data to have a better collection of information. Having a member of the group study one person at a time and then have the other members study the other members of the group will help define and gather crucial information about the group and the attendees. There needs to be a list of questions that need to be asked but the bigger the group gets the more questions to need to be asked. This journal was written to help pave the way for future studies of groups.
McGrath, J. E., Arrow, H., & Bredahl, J. L. (2000). The study of groups: Past, present, and future. Personality and social psychology review, 4(1), 95-105.
This group studied and researched theory development. They used a 3-prong research strategy that was based on theory development, computational modeling, and empirical research. They studied this to show the constant changes in groups and also brought out the structures of continuity and also the complexity of the groups. They showed how it can go from easy to hard just by the group diversity and the group as a whole when it grows or gets smaller. With this type of research, we see how groups change from one day to another depending on emotions and where the groups differ from time to time.
Smith, K.K., & Berg, D. N. (1987). A paradoxical conception of group dynamics. Human Relations, 40(10), 633-657.
This group expounded on the theory of several group experiences. They did a seven-group dynamic study that was examined using paradoxical epistemology. The things they looked at were the paradoxes of identity, disclosure, creativity, authority, and regression. All this information that was sought after helps individuals learn more about themselves in groups. It teaches more of how each individual thinks about themselves. Small groups are better at this than big groups. Human relations consist of communication and getting to know each other but also getting to themselves better. Once the small group knows each other then they can proceed to make more progress in what they set out to do.
Griffin, R. W., Phillips, J., & Gully, S. M. (2020). Organizational behavior: Managing people and organizations. Cengage.
This group studied and researched people and groups and learned how to organize and better manage people. Having been able to learn the strengths and skills of each member in the group can help facilitate people to get the maximized work ethic out of them. They also researched and brought out how to understand employees’ behavior and better organize their employees. This gave ideas on how to balance the older ways with the newer generations. This group also brought out how to assess the weaknesses of the group or employees to help get their employees to better themselves in areas they are weak in.
