Choose a specific topic or person from Chapter 8 or Chapter 9 of Building the American
Republic by Jane Dailey. Then search issues of Jet to discover how the magazine reported on that
topic or person in the moment. A link is provided in Blackboard. Write an essay (300-400
words) that compares and contrasts the perspectives of your textbook and the magazine. Does a

initial interpretation generally correspond to what she wrote?

the writing assignment for Unit 4 is comparable to the one for Unit 3, except now you will use Jet for research. Please keep in mind that I am familiar with the magazine and already know what Wikipedia says about it. Focus on the person or topic of your choice from Chapter 8 and/or 9. Remember that your research should be limited to the years 1954 to 1968, the same years covered by those chapters.
