The result of my work environment assessment was 71= moderately healthy
work environment. For the most part, my workplace is civil ( I work in a
psychiatric unit). One time when I was working as a charge nurse I had to talk to another nurse because he did not medicate his patient properly and the
patient seemed to be in distress. Pt was screaming in Spanish and not able
to sleep ( I work the night shift). I told the nurse and he ignored the patient’s
pleas. I had to be firm and tell him that he needed to call the doctor and get
an order for Ativan (medication we give for acute anxiety episodes) for that
patient. He got pretty angry and told me not to tell him how to manage “his”
patients. I tried to smooth things over with him, in order to maintain the
peace, but I did text the manager right away and she told me she will talk to
him. I do not know if she did. I’ve been avoiding working with him as much
as possible ( since we do have a self-schedule). We did work together for
one more shift after that incident, but we avoided each other throughout the
shift. He is known for that kind of behavior.
