PIck an Ethical Issue Topic:

For this third module, you will write a first draft of your paper’s introduction. In this introduction, you should lay out what ethical issue you will be covering and why it is a concern. Questions you might want to answer in your introduction include (but are not limited to): What is this ethical issue? How does the particular procedure work (if applicable)? What are the various positions on this issue? This first section should be about 250-500 words, and should cite at least one academic source (this can be from your prior module’s bibliography, or you can find a new one if you need it). Additionally, be sure to include a clear thesis statement in this section, that explains what your paper is looking discussing (for example: “In this paper I will be offering an ethical [defense/critique] of [insert topic]”).

Second Assignment:
At the center of the stem cell research debate is the question of “personhood.” When in the development of an embryo/fetus, does the being become a person in the moral sense (they have rights and responsibilities)? What factors might be morally relevant to this question—physical development, cognitive ability, viability, etc.? What resources might be brought to bear on this question (i.e. where could you turn for help deciding on this fundamental issue)—religious, philosophical, ethical, cultural, etc.? Where do you come down on this question? This response should be a minimum of 300 words in length (that’s usually about 1 page, double-spaced, 12 pt font; there is no maximum length) and cite at least one of the required readings.
