Summary & Setting and Central Idea Paper

k Review all material in Module #1 and 1.5. Write a two paragraph paper summarizing the plot and stating the central idea of one of the following stories: “The Story of an Hour” by Kate Chopin or “ “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson and one paragraph analyzing setting. This paper #1.5 should not exceed 2 pages of writing. (500 words)
Pay special attention to The Setting and the Central idea and the sample paragraphs.

Paragraph #1: Summary and Central Idea
Review Module #1.
If needed, revise paper #1.
Use the same story and revised first paragraph submitted as paper #1.

Paragraph #2: Analysis of Setting
The second paragraph should discuss the importance of setting to the story. Begin this paragraph with a sentence that establishes the setting of the story. For example, any of the following sentences structures could work:
The story is set in London at the beginning of the eighteenth century.
The story takes place in a two-bedroom apartment in modern-day Cincinnati.
The story is set in an unnamed Nigerian village towards the end of the British colonization of Africa.
After writing the sentence establishing the setting, analyze the physical setting in the story and its relationship to the central idea. Think about why the author chose this particular setting for the story. How is the physical setting described in the story? Could the physical setting be symbolic in any way to what occurs in the story? Is the time important to the central idea? What is the social condition and does the social condition create a mood that reinforces the central idea?
Do not forget to include the subject and the category in the heading of the paper.
