Write an informative speech 5 minutes long about the side effects of nicotine addiction. This speech should be an original, factual speech on a realistic subject to fulfill the general aim of informing the audience. Your goal should be to provide the audience with information that they don’t already know. Good topic selection is vital to this speech. You want to pick a topic that is unusual and interesting. In the words of C and C Music Factory, the topic should be one of those “things that make you go hmmm.”
The speech could be about a medical or scientific advancement that the audience should be aware of, it could be about a historical figure or event, or it could be about the history or unusual uses of an object. For instance, you could give a speech about CRSPR. You could give a speech about Emma Goldman. You could give a speech about the art of Banksy. You could give a speech about the history of Jello. Whatever topic you choose, you should tell the audience why they should care about the topic.
In addition to being a good topic choice, the speech should well researched. I expect no less than 3 sources in the speech, which you must cite both verbally in your speech and on a bibliography page that you will turn in with your outline. The bibliography page should use APA style guidelines. Try to find quality sources that help improve the quality of your speech and build your credibility.
The speech should have a logical organization pattern, a polished delivery, and physical movement (don’t stand behind the podium the whole speech). You must also tell the audience why the speech is relevant to them, why they should care about your topic.
Prepare some sort of visual aid for this speech. The visual aid should highlight, or help bring understanding to, important aspects of your speech. The visual aid should not overwhelm your speech, or distract from the content of the speech.
Finally, the purpose of this speech is to inform, not to persuade. Your goal is not to tell the audience what they should do or believe. Do not include your opinion in this speech. Rather, give the audience useful information that they don’t already have.
