Write a research paper on What is war good for?
When you think about war, people do not always think about the daily things around the
world that will change because of it. This article stood out to amongst others because, I live in
California where gas prices went beyond six dollars. The article chosen is clearly stating that if
people want to see a decrease in gas prices, we will first have to see higher prices. The article
“Want lower oil prices? First you need higher ones” touched on a couple points that were
covered in our readings such as supply and demand and price elasticity. The oil industry was a
tight industry already and this war has only made it more complicated. A JP Morgan analyst
mentions, “Brent will have to rise to $120 a barrel and stay there for months to incentivize
demand destruction.” (Kelly, 2022). If the demand goes down but the industry needs to stay
afloat the prices will rise to meet that expectation.

Since the war has caused the supply of oil to become scarcer it has made the prices
increase meaning the supply for oil is down, but the demand is still the same. The demand for oil
will continue to be a factor in everyday living situations based off how much we rely on it. If
prices get to high people will start to do other things such as car pooling or using other means of
transportation. Elasticity is defined as the measurement of responsiveness of buyers and sellers to
change in price or income (Mankiw, 2016). The way the consumers are responding to the price
change was expected. Since we need gasoline to get us back and forth to work, home and any
other everyday activity we as consumers of this product must adapt and figure out better ways to
deal with the unfortunate backlash of this war. Since going to war, there was not any doubt that the price of oil would increase. I am not a fan of this increase, but I understand why it happened. Countries do not always fight wars with
bullets and missiles, they mainly try to cripple the other countries economy because that hurts
them more. I do not believe we should have gotten involved but that alone does not mean our oil
prices would not have changed.

As Christians we are taught to turn the other cheek and try to give chances and the benefit
of the doubt, however sometimes that does not always fit the situation. I feel like we are acting as
big brother in this situation and trying to help a country who is not as strong as us and basically
keep them from getting bullied. Although my views are not the only way to look at things and
they might not be correct, we as Americans have a hard time minding our business. I have seen
on several occasions where American Christians have an even harder time doing this. In
conclusion, it is not our godly responsibility to keep everyone out of harms way especially if it
has backlash that will affect other people who did not want to get involved to begin with.
