From pink nurseries for girls to blue blankets for boys, gender differences are played up before the very start of a baby’s life. But are the genders so different? For example, males are instructed to bottle up their emotions and be strong and it’s widely assumed that females are more emotional. Gender roles and schemas are perpetuated in cultures and societies because they bring success to the larger group, but they don’t necessarily work for the individual and their relationships. They aren’t usually healthy for anyone.
