LOW INFLATION BENDS THE PHILLIPS CURVE AROUND THE WORLD

Students are required to write a short paper (3 to 4 pages) summarizing an economic article (of their
choice) on a topic related to those covered in class (fiscal policy, monetary policy, business cycle
fluctuations,…). Sources to find such articles include NBER Working Papers
(https://www.nber.org/papers), Journal of Monetary Economics
(https://www.journals.elsevier.com/journal-of-monetary-economics/), Review of Economic Dynamics
(https://www.journals.elsevier.com/review-of-economic-dynamics), American Economic Review
(https://www.aeaweb.org/journals/aer), American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics
(https://www.aeaweb.org/journals/mac)…
The goal of the assignment is to read the paper and try to understand its (research) question and its
conclusion (how they got to these conclusions – what approach/methodology they used). You should
write a summary of those questions and findings. Importantly, a significant part of your paper should
focus on relating the article to what we discussed in class i.e. to the models we covered, their
assumptions, their implications…

Addition Note:
Thank you. You can work on that paper. However, the paper you chose is very short. Therefore, I expect you to put much more effort on linking the content of the paper to what we cover in class. Alternatively, you can choose another paper for approval.
The goal of the assignment is to read this paper and try to understand its (research) objective and its conclusion (as well as how they got to these conclusions – what approach/methodology they used). You should write a summary of those objectives and findings. Importantly, and in particular for the paper you have chosen, a major part of your summary should focus on relating the paper to what we discussed in class i.e. to the models we covered, their assumptions, their implications… Whether/how they are similar (reach similar conclusion…) or how/why they differ ….
