Following the
traditional five-paragraph essay structure compose an essay that answers the question “How has
one challenging experience shaped who you are by opening your eyes to some truth about reality?”.
(Important note: Do not write about a subject you are not willing to share with your classmates.)
Quote from at least one source we have read and discussed in class to help you with your essay’s
content. You also may incorporate additional sources you have found through research outside
of our unit readings. Remember, ideas taken from the readings and any additional sources must
be incorporated according to MLA rules, which we will discuss in class using the Purdue
University Online Writing Lab, the OWL.
Your audience for this assignment consists of your peers—college students. Your paragraphs
must be fully developed, and your essay must be a minimum of 1,250 words.
