The project assignment involves a comprehensive financial analysis and valuation of a large
publicly traded firm. The project is organized around the following components: 1) Executive
summary 2) Profitability and credit risk analysis; 3) Construction of pro-forma financial
statements; 4) Valuation; and 5) Identification of value-creating opportunities.
You need to use a variety of data sources for your analysis. Some sources are listed in the
Appendix. If you use additional data sources or recommendations and predictions made by
others (e.g., such as those of professional analysts), make sure to formally cite them in your
report. You will also face numerous uncertainties in your analysis. Remember to justify any
assumptions you make and explain them in your project report. Last, you should assume that the
most recent fiscal year’s financial statements of your company have just been released.
The first step in your analysis is to perform profitability and credit risk analysis of your
company. Download the financial statements of your company for the past five years. Several
lectures discuss various measures of profitability and credit risk. Focus on ROE and RNOA as
well as ratios reflecting liquidity, solvency, and coverage. Discuss any trends in the measures
you selected. Analyze the profitability and credit risk for your company.
