Write a minimum essay in which you discuss what Marlowe’s Faust and More’s Utopia revealed about the tension between Humanism and religion. Specifically discuss ideas such as the aspirations and rule of man, free will versus divine intervention and freedom of belief versus religious dogma as presented and dealt with in both works. As long as your essay addresses the previous items and incorporates both works, you have a certain amount of freedom about how you approach the topic. For instance, you might include what you think Marlowe’s position is on Humanism since Faustus deals with a scientific(Humanistic) man’s spiritual turmoil. You might discuss Thomas More’s Humanistic views on government. Include two secondary sources to support your points. You may not use study sites such as SparkNotes, Cliffnotes, or anything similar. You may not use Wikipedia. Find your sources using the library databases or find equivalent sources from an academically oriented website that hosts books or journal articles written by authorities on these topics. Quote, paraphrase and summarize from both Utopia and Faust to support your argument. Be sure to use MLA style to cite anything you quote paraphrase, or summarize from the works or sources.
