METABOLIC MAP

you can use the template as a reference to make the map

Create a metabolic overview of a mammalian system based on the metabolic pathways or cycles that we have studied this semester. The schematic diagram should include the liver, surrounded by a blood vessel that brings nutrients from digestion and also delivers metabolites to other tissues (i.e. muscle, fat and brain).
Indicate all of the major metabolic pathways we have studied that take place in each organ as arrows, and use thicker arrows if a particular pathway/cycle is unique to or predominant in that tissue. Pathways can be indicated by a single line, but include the names of intermediates that branch off to other pathways, and cycles can be rendered as an arrowed circle. (Note: you do not have to show all the reactions, e.g. glucose -> pyruvate could be one arrow labelled glycolysis).
Indicate the molecular transport of metabolites between the blood and tissues. Include metabolic pathways related to amino acids, fatty acids, and sugars, including the intermediates that are common to more than one pathway. You should include a legend and use any tool that might add clarity to your diagram i.e. color coding. I suggest that you make a draft copy and then revise it extensively.
You can prepare your map on a large piece of paper if it is easier, but it is possible to do it on a 8 ½ x 11 piece of paper. If you draw the metabolic map by hand, you will have to take a clear picture and convert it to a pdf for upload. (20 marks)
