The primary purpose of this assignment is to comprehensively analyze and apply a nursing theory that would be appropriate to a DNP project. To do this, you are tasked to prepare an audio-visual presentation that focuses on one of the theories, presenting evidence backed by peer-reviewed journal articles and accredited resources. I WILL ADD AUDIO MYSELF. Just make the power point and type up the audio and I’ll record and add it myself.
CONSIDERATIONS FOR THE DNP PROJECT
An important consideration for the theory application presentation is its connection to the DNP project required to complete the degree program. Students are meant to demonstrate a synthesis of knowledge and the ability to translate evidence into practice. Your DNP project is meant to be:
Relevant to advanced practice nursing
Characterized by a systematic process
Targeted to a population of interest, addressing the contextual aspect of the population’s setting
Conceived with measurable outcomes and with a dissemination component.
For the theory application presentation, you must choose a theory that would be valid for a DNP project. One main way to start to think about your approach to the DNP project (and thus, the approach to the theory application presentation) is to decide whether you want to use an evidence-based practice (EBP) or a quality improvement model as the basis for your project.
EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICE:
Evidence-based practice involves the integration of best evidence, patient preferences, and clinical expertise as a guide for clinical decision-making.
Examples: Creating and implementing new protocols, implementing clinical practice guidelines
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT:
Quality improvement involves improving patient care through identifying patient care problems and implementing a plan for improvement.
Examples: Implementing a new screening tool in the clinic, improving documentation of critical lab values.

The theory description is a comprehensive summary of the salient aspects of the theory. The components of this section break down into:
The Theorist
A comprehensive analysis of theories includes a careful consideration of the theory’s author. Areas for exploration include experiential background, educational background, employment, and reconstruction of the professional and academic networks that surrounded the theorist while the theory was evolving.
The Paradigmatic Origins Of The Theory
To identify the paradigm from which the theory may have evolved or other theories that may have influenced its development, the review considers the following:
References, bibliography provided
Background of theorist, educationally and experientially
Sociocultural context that may have influenced the theory’s development
Analysis of the theory in relationship to these components provides answers to three major questions:
Is the theory derived from and built on a specific paradigm?
What are the origins of the paradigm?
Why was this particular paradigm used?
More specifically, on what prototype theory or paradigm did the theorist build the conceptual structures? How extensively is the original paradigm or theory used?
The Internal Dimensions Of The Theory
Dimensions described in this section help in analyzing a theory to enhance understanding of the approaches used to develop it, in delineating gaps in the theory, and in giving perspective to why some omissions are not necessarily gaps in the theory but in some instances are merely what the theory intended.
Like the description of the theory, the application is composed of several important parts.

The clarity of theories and models is further enhanced by a visual representation of the theory. Provide a visual representation of the theory so that its various points can be seen in context with each other.
Circle Of Contagiousness
The final test of any theory is whether it is adopted by others. The units of analysis here are geographical location and type of institution. Theories in nursing have been used within the geographical areas from which they emanated. Rogers’ theory is used at New York University and tested by Rogers’ students; Johnson’s is used in Los Angeles and tested by her students. Therefore, when a theory begins to cross several concentric circles from its origin, its circle of contagiousness increases, and we can infer that the theory is receiving more acceptability, uninfluenced by the theorist.
Usefulness
Application of the usefulness of a theory encompasses four areas: its potential for usefulness in practice, research, education, and administration.
Grading Rubric:
1.Identify the practice problem you want to improve. Ask: What do you want your DNP project to be about? (10 points)
2.Identify the middle-range theory you plan to apply to the problem. Identify what type of theory from the following categories:
a) Descriptive
b) Explanatory
c) Predictive
Then ask: Why will this theory be compatible with your chosen practice setting? (10 points)
3.Literature review: Find at least 3 recent (2017–2022) studies that support the use of your chosen theory (10 points)
4.Assessment of Success: Ask the following questions:
a) In the studies you found, was the theory used successfully?
b) Could you reproduce their study in your chosen population? (10 points)
DNP Project Planning: How do you plan to complete your DNP project? Answer the following questions:
a) What is your chosen population?
b) What assessment or intervention do you plan to implement?
c) What will it be compared against?
d) What is the desired outcome?
e) What is the timeframe of your intervention or assessment? (20 points)
APA usage and grammar (10 points)
Presentation style: Speech is clear, easy to understand, comfortable speed, no excessive background noise, etc. (5 points)
Presentation visual: Minimal use of words on slides, use of pictures/visual elements, easy to read, etc (5 points)
References: Use of at least six references for presentation (10 points)
Presentation timing: Total presentation runtime should be 5 to 7 minutes (10 points)
