Recovery Support System Paper

Each
student will attend an open AA or NA meeting and an All Recovery meeting. Then read the Atlantic article, the New York
Times article, and the other assigned readings for Module 9. Next write a paper of about 4-5 pages where
you think critically about all these sources of information. What assumptions did you have about self-help
that were challenged based on all this information both experiential and
learned? Additional questions you might
ask yourself are:
Experience
of the Meetings: What was your
experience of the AA/NA meeting? How did
that compare with your All Recovery meeting experience? Discuss similarities and differences.
Atlantic
& New York Times articles: How did your experience of the meeting help you
make sense of the AA/NA and All Recovery meetings you attended? What rang true for you and what created
conflicting thoughts/views?
Self-defined Recovery: “Recovery is whatever a person decides it is including
if they continue to use substances.” How
can you use your experience at the two different meetings to inform creating a
recovery support system while honoring the previous statement?
