Sermon Series Overview and Outline Assignment

Overview
Christians are
faced with increasing skeptical views on miracles, especially surrounding the
resurrection of Jesus. This assignment provides students the opportunity to
prepare a teaching or sermon series to use within their congregations that
centers on the resurrection of Jesus. Not only does this assignment afford the
student the opportunity to sketch out a defense of miracles in general and the
resurrection in particular, but it also aids them in helping those with whom
they minister to connect the resurrection to other central doctrines of the
Christian faith.

For this
assignment, prepare a five-lesson sermon/teaching series that covers central
issues related to miracles and the resurrection. The teaching/sermon series
should include the following:

Length
of assignment – 9-10 pages
A
brief introduction and summary of how the lessons/sermons will be implemented
into your local church (12 pages)
Scope
and Sequence: a chart plotting out when the lessons/sermons will be given
(e.g., Wednesday night Discipleship, Sunday Morning Sermons, Sunday School
Class, etc.), titles of each lesson/sermon, and key passages for each lesson/sermon
(1-2 page)
Five
lesson/sermon plans covering the following areas (5 pages minimum):
A defense of
miracles/resurrection (1 page)
The centrality of
the resurrection (1 page)
How the
resurrection relates to theology (1 page)
How the
resurrection relates to spiritual formation of the individual (1 page)
How the
resurrection relates to the mission of the Church (1 page)

Number
of citations – This assignment does not require a specific number of citations,
but it should i nteract with and engage the Learn material for the module in a
substantive manner.

Acceptable
sources – This assignment does not require interaction with other sources
outside of the course Learn materials, but if other sources are used, those
sources should consist of scholarly academic journals and books. Websites,
blogs, and popular level works should be avoided.

Be creative and
have fun with this assignment. The key objective is to think of ways to help
your congregation/church members to the see the apologetic value of the
doctrine of the resurrection and how it is connected to the central teachings
and practices of Christianity.
