“Has the Coast Dream Been Covided?” English III Honors Researched Paper Standards
The topic for this researched paper will focus on the subject of “The American Dream.” Covid 19 has really altered many versions of the American Dream. We are going to focus on the version of American Dream Jim Cullen in Ch. 6 titles “The Dream of Good Life (III) The Coast.” This Dream has been significantly altered by Covid 19 because many career fields associated with this dream have been considered nonessential and therefore have been limited or completely shut down at times over the past year. Fields associated with this dream are the professional sports industry, music industry, movie industry, television industry, the vacation industry, etc. In your paper, you will define this dream using the structure and criteria below and end the essay by explaining whether or not this nonessential classification will permanently alter those pursuing this dream in these fields in the future or will these fields bounce back. You will use research to support your argument and will only focus on one industry in this dream. If you are using the professional sports industry, you may focus on one particular sport in your paper.
The length of this paper will be 4-7 (no more than 8 pages) double spaced 12 point font of actual text, not including the “Works Cited” page.
The paper will have a clear focus.
The paper will likely have two, three, or more major supporting points per paragraph.
Depending upon the support, the paper will have multiple paragraphs, likely multiple paragraphs for each point.
The paper must be in MLA format.
The paper must have at least six citations and at least six matching entries on the “Works Cited” page.
All notes must be found on the Note Taking Graphic Organizer before they can be used in the essay.

Point III–Those affected by Dream of Good Life (III) The Coast (Good/Bad) (Before Covid 19)
Point IV–How the Dream of Good Life (III) The Coast reflected the culture from which it came (Before Covid 19)
Point V–How the Covid 19’s Definition of Essential vs. Nonessential Businesses has affected the Dream of Good Life (III) The Coast (short term effects)
Point VI–Whether or not these effects on the Dream of Good Life (III) The Coast will bounce back quickly or will leave their mark for years to come along with Research that verifies and explains why you feel as you do. (long term effects)
Point VII–What this situation means for current participants in this American Dream and what it means for future participants in this American Dream of Good Life (III) The Coast.
Point VIII–Verdict as to whether the change in this particular part of the Coast Dream or its disappearance altogether will make the world a better or worse place. Use evidence to support this argument. Explain.
Last Paragraph–Conclusion (Begin with a restated version of thesis (not word for word), sum up each point’s main idea, and end with a clincher.)
Remember, this is a persuasive definition paper. Therefore, it must focus on persuading the audience of the definition of the American Dream in this instance and must not focus on an expository encyclopedia article about a historical event. Also, each industry may be affected differently, so only focus on one.
This is a 400 pt. assignment plus points for different steps of the assignment. This essay is due at 11:59pm on 4/22/22 but not late until 4/23/21 at BOP. It will not be accepted as late.
Each paragraph should be 4-7 sentences long (8 sentence max). Multiple paragraphs may be used for any or all of the Roman Numeral Points.
I will have a few daily videos to assist you with certain parts of the essay. I will assign them during RLT Time.
I would read Jim Cullen’s Ch. 6 as soon as possible because it will steer most of your essay (Points I-IV).

Disney theme parks will never be the same post Covid 19 because they have to change many of their safety procedures and will accept these new procedures as effective precautionary measures for the future. (must have researched support to back it up and tie to The Coast American Dream ).
Reality TV stars are videotaping their own Covid 19 experiences in order to keep their shows running and thriving in spite of the pandemic; therefore, their numbers of viewers are climbing while other types of broadcasts and shows are at a standstill and risk being canceled. Las Vegas’s Covid shutdown could not only devastate the city for years to come because its residents rely so heavily on tourism for jobs but could also change the entire atmosphere and scene due to current big company investors selling off casinos, sites, etc. to hungrier, smaller businesses in order to recoup their losses. Eatertainment (choose one Dave and Busters, Alexander’s Steakhouse, Hibachi Performance Restaurants, etc.) will struggle to survive in a post Covid world. (must have researched support to back it up and tie to The Coast American Dream )
