For this assignment you will research a question about the politics of corporations in a global context. You must select a particular company, group of companies, or industry sector. Discuss how they make use of different sources of power in order to shape policy or political outcomes, and the ability of other actors–governments, international organizations, civil society–to hold them accountable.
Your question should be about corporations and politics in the global arena. You should be able to articulate why it is an important or interesting question. It should be a political question, not economic or managerial. Who is involved and who has power?
You will need to do research drawing on multiple authoritative sources, using evidence and cases to support your points.
This paper should be 8-10 pages, with a title and your name at the top. Clever titles are encouraged! All pages should be numbered. You should have at least eight high quality sources. All sources should be properly cited in the body of the paper using (author, date) format.
You must submit an annotated bibliography, i.e. why you used the source and what it added to the paper. The bibliography should use full and complete citations–you will have points deducted if you submit a list of URL.
What I look for in grading:
clearly stated and relevant question, and discussion of alternative answers
accurate and detailed information
logical and coherent presentation of the material
any tables, graphs, maps and other visuals present are relevant and effectively used (they won’t count towards the page requirement)
writing style, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation
persuasive and thoughtful conclusion
effective use of a variety of credible and authoritative sources
