Final Paper
Topic: Students will choose a current event (a documented event within the last 3 years) and examine and analyze the event through the lens of Religious Studies. This should be a specific event, not a large and extending event. For example, “Covid” or the “War in Afghanistan” are too broad and wide; however, “New Zealand’s second shut down” or “Biden’s removal of troops” are more specific events. Research for this paper is expected to include theory/theories from the course AND outside research. Remember, a theorist is NOT a primary text. You CANNOT use primary text in lieu of a theorist. You have a fair amount of freedom in respect to your choice of a current event, however, 2018 is as far back in history as you should go. Preferable, you should choose an event within the last year.

5 to 6 pages, double spaced, Times New Roman. *Name and course information does not count for page length*

You are given a fair amount of freedom to explore and investigate as your own interest directs. Please, use this assignment strategically. Religious Studies is an interdisciplinary field of study. Strategic means to use this assignment to further your own field, interests, and goals through the field of Religious Studies. For example, if you are a Social Work major, feel free to examine a social work current event through the lens and theories of Religious Studies.
