I’m really interested in how you understand the fiction to be bringing into awareness the problems and solutions of the lived experience of South Africans. Can fiction make a difference in how we understand identity, love, home, ethics, wellness, politics, and even writing or storytelling itself?
Choose one of the topics below and write an eight-page paper (double-spaced, 12-point font, 1 inch margins). Show me what you have learned from a semester of reading, thinking, and talking about this fiction with a powerful statement of case about the fiction you choose to focus on. What is it teaching you and what can you teach me?
Please also engage in the conversation with other scholars by incorporating at least THREE academic articles or book chapters. Don’t just quote them as “evidence”; use the primary text (novel or story) for that. Instead talk to and with them, using their ideas to generate your own original readings of the novels or stories. Also, I love when you include meaty close readings of passages as part of your essay: it’s compelling for the argument and grounding for the analysis. Plus, so interesting for your reader!
Don’t forget to double-check your MLA format, ensuring that you give credit where it is due to other writers. Consider that misrepresenting someone else’s words as your own work is a bit like intellectual imperialism, invading and stealing someone else’s original intellectual territory. Just one way of reframing academic integrity as an ethical, political choice. Finally, please write at least two drafts before handing it in. You can make your voice much stronger with a little bit of editing and proofreading. Aim for clarity and, ultimately, mastery of your own discourse. You have something important to tell me, and I want to understand it fully.
Please feel free to share your writing goals with me before you embark, and then let’s follow up and see how you did after.
the topic I choose to write about is:
Black Panther (2018) and how it compares the speculative fiction representations of (South) Africa in the film with Triangulum. How do these texts use alternative realities to engage political questions about colonialism?
There must be THREE acedemic sources if you need help finding some I willl be more then happy to help.
I defined an academic source as: Scholarly sources (also referred to as academic, peer-reviewed, or refereed sources) are written by experts in a particular field and serve to keep others interested in that field up to date on the most recent research, findings, and news.
The research paper uses the acedic sources as a steping stone to make their thesis so please quote the sources as much as possible. The paper does not need to use a lot of big word just make sure the point is explained well.
