Your introduction should include the author’s main idea, purpose, and the intended audience of the article. End your introductory paragraph with your thesis that includes your thoughts/argument on the writer’s main idea and the key points you are going to use to discuss it.
In the multi-paragraph body of your essay, discuss the author’s use of evidence. What strategies does the author use to support and develop his/her position? What specific techniques does the author use to appeal to the reader (ethos, logos, pathos) to capture and hold the reader’s attention, and/or to anticipate and refute possible objections, and/or to illustrate points? Offer your own analysis, commentary, or interpretation of the author’s evidence. Feel free to connect the author’s evidence to your own examples (from background knowledge/previous experience).
Conclude by reintroducing the author’s main idea and providing your final judgments on it.
Follow MLA format for in-text citations using the format you learned this semester. Your essay should contain at least 3 quotes and 3 paraphrases, all correctly cited using in-text citations. A Works Cited sheet is not required.
